Remember to Enrol Your Mare as an Ontario Resident Mare before she foals in 2010

2010 Standardbred Mare Enrollment Form

To be eligible for the Ontario Bred Rewards Program, mare owners are reminded that  the 2010 mare enrolment form must be received at Standardbred Canada before the mare foals in 2010. Mare owners who enrolled for the 2009 foal are reminded that applications must be made annually for mares in foal.

Enrolment forms were mailed in early January to mare owners. The ORC recognizes that some owners whose mares foaled early may not have received the forms in time to have them enrolled before the foal was born. Therefore, for any 2010 foals born before March 15^th, the ORC is announcing an exception to the requirement to be enrolled prior to foaling. Owners of mares foaling before March 15^th will have until that date to have their mares enrolled in the Program. All other mares due to foal in 2010 must be enrolled before the foal is born.

To qualify as an Ontario Resident Mare, a mare must be resident in the province of Ontario for 180 consecutive days surrounding date of foaling in Ontario. Offspring of Ontario Resident Mares will be eligible to be registered as Ontario Bred horses, and will then be eligible for incentives attached to their Ontario Bred status.

What are Ontario Bred Rewards?
This reward program will pay out to mare owners of Ontario Breds as follows:

For Ontario Sired foals of 2010 out of an Ontario Resident Mare:

• 15% of the horse’s total OSS earnings
• 15% of the horse’s earnings in selected “Open” stakes races in Ontario.

For Non Ontario sired foals of 2010 out of an Ontario Resident Mare:

• 15% of the horse’s earnings in selected “Open” stakes races in Ontario.
