Corporate Thoroughbred


Where an individual or group of individuals wish to race their horses under a Stable Name, or as part of an estate or multiple ownership entity, such as a corporation or a partnership, these entities must be licensed by the Ontario Racing Commission using the Thoroughbred Stable Licence Application form.

Effect of Suspension
In the event that one or more of the members of a licenced partnership or stable is suspended, the suspension shall also include any horses owned wholly or in part by the stable.

Changes to business entity
Any changes to the business entity must be reported to the Ontario Racing Commission and any licensing requirements due to the change completed

Licensing a corporation
In addition to the corporation itself, any person holding or controlling five (5%) or more of the corporation, must be licensed as an owner.

A complete application includes:

• Completed form(s), as required
Thoroughbred Stable Licence Application
Thoroughbred Individual Licence Application

• Business documentation, as follows:

Profile Report for the corporation name from the Ministry of Government Services www.mgs.gov.on.ca

The applicant will be expected to supply other information as required under Rule 32.20 of the Rules of Thoroughbred Racing.

Licensing a partnership 
In addition to the partnership itself, any person holding or controlling five (5%) or more of the partnership, must be licensed as an owner. 

A complete application includes: 

• Completed form(s), as required 
Thoroughbred Partnership Licence Application 
Thoroughbred Individual Licence Application 

• Business documentation, as follows: 

Business Names Report from the Ministry of Government Services 
www.mgs.gov.on.ca 

The applicant will be expected to supply other information as required under Rule 31.12 and 32.03 of the Rules of Thoroughbred Racing. 

• Applicable fees 
Thoroughbred Fee Schedule
 
Registering a stable name 
Individuals wishing to race their horses in a name other than their own, may decide to race their horses under a stable name. Stable Names are registered with the Commission and are renewed annually. 

A complete application includes: 

• Completed form(s), as required 
Thoroughbred Stable License Application 
Thoroughbred Individual Licence Application 

• Applicable fees 
Thoroughbred Fee Schedule
